The East Baton Rouge Parish is located in the state of Louisiana. The city of Baton Rouge is the capital of Louisiana and serves as the parish’s governmental seat. Both the city and the parish are managed by a consolidated government. This consolidation of city and rural governments took place in 1947.

The parish is 455.37 square miles of total land area. It has 15 square miles of water. Bodies of water within the East Baton Rouge Parish are the Amite River, Bayou Manchac, the Mississippi River, and Thompson Creek. The parish is part of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Cities in the East Baton Rouge Parish are Baton Rouge, Baker, Zachary, and Central City. Adjacent parishes include East Feliciana Parish, West Feliciana Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish, Iberville Parish, Ascension Parish, Livingston Parish, and St. Helena Parish.
